The Boy Who Fixed Things
Before there was a story about us, there was just a boy who wanted to understand how things worked.
Semester by semester, the story of us — from strangers to soulmates.
I was never looking for love. I was looking for capacitors, lab work, and a first year I thought would be about grades. Then one ordinary day I looked up, and the rhythm was damaged and never came back under my control.
We changed campus in second year. Our classes ended up opposite each other, and the whole arrangement became a hide-and-seek I was playing without deciding to play it.
A friend said something about her that I could not digest. I reacted before I could think. And then a single accidental tap on Snapchat sent a request I could not unsend.
I had accepted that I would tell her in my fourth year and walk away. Aditya decided otherwise. He used four tickets to a Microsoft office as the bridge — and I spoke to her for the first time.
She came to me after lunch, out of nowhere, and insisted on paying me back for a juice she owed from first year. She asked for my UPI details. She took my number again. She asked for my GPay QR.
The thing you fear most is that it happened because of something you did. I will never say that. But I will not pretend the timing.
Three months of holidays, and I poured everything into a project that had a real chance of becoming a startup. The only motivation was her. I had no photo of her, so I used her LinkedIn.
The RTC buses frightened me. So I stood far away, every single day, and made sure she got on safely. That is all I had. It turned out it was not all I had.
